Projects and Initiatives 2010/11
Projects that have been planned for 2010 by the City of Norway include:
• Completion of the Sturgeon Falls Hydroelectric Project (unit #2)
• Reconstruction, Norway St (US2-4th Ave)
• Norway Myr Parking Lot
• Marion Park improvements
• Road and storm water improvements in the industrial area
• Intersection improvements (US2 & 9th Ave)
• 9th Ave reconstruction (US2-Stephenson)
• Joint Zoning Ordinance with Norway Township and City of Norway
Norway is also looking at applying for grant monies to assist with some of the projects on this list from the Obama stimulus package, as well as some traditional grant opportunities to assist with some other projects such as the downtown facades, apartment rehabilitation projects and some additional street projects.
Wetland Restoration Project (WRP)
The Wetland Restoration Project (WRP) relocated White Creek from its previously channelized location to its original location. A natural area has been created providing public access to the naturalized setting named the Norway Myr. (MYR is Norwegian for bog) This is an ongoing project with the next initiative identified: parking and educational resources.
Proposed Norway Area Zoning Ordinance with
the City of Norway and Norway Township
The City of Norway and Norway Township are currently working on a zoning ordinance. Please read and download the pdf for all the information that is currently available.
A public hearing will be held on this plan in the future.
The City of Norway and Norway Township have entered into an agreement to form a joint Planning Commission to investigate and develop joint intergovernmental opportunities. The coordinated effort results from a common concern and interest in working together to advance joint efforts for future developments and opportunities for our entire area.
